- Kunozan Toshogu Shrine is the founding shrine of Toshogu shrines in Japan that enshrines Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu as the deity.
- Prince Ieyasu, who founded the Edo shogunate, spent his time as a great mogul in Sunpu (currently the center of Shizuoka City) and ended his life of 75 years in 1616.
- According to his will, his remains were buried in Mt. Kunozan (Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City), and Kunozan Toshogu Shrine was subsequently built by order of the second shogun Hidetada. The main shrine and worship hall (1 building) are national treasures.

- The Roumon Gate (an important cultural property) is a two-story, vermilion-painted gate that stands on top of the stone steps next to the shrine office within the shrine grounds.
- It is said to separate the secular world from the divine realm.
- A plaque with the name Tosho Daigongen is hung in the center, and a carving of a baku, a sacred animal that is said to be a symbol of peace, greets worshipers on the toad.
- There is a zuishin statue placed inside the lattice door on the front side of the gate, and a lion and a guardian dog placed inside the fence on the back side.
