- The 24 Hours of Le Mans in France is known as the world's toughest endurance race.
- Japanese cars first began competing in Le Mans in the 1970s, but it was not until the 1980s that automakers began to seriously enter works teams in the race as a way to show off their technological capabilities and take pride in themselves.
- Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda were the three companies that put the most effort into the race, but initially they struggled to even complete the course.
- The race category was Group C, which mainly involved racing cars with powerful engines mounted in the center of low, flat, race-specific bodies that had no relation to commercially available cars. Mazda used a rotary engine with a structure completely different from that of other companies, and despite concerns about its durability, in 1991 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it finished in first place for the entire 24 hours, becoming the first Japanese car to win the overall victory.
- The feat of being the first rotary-engine car to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans will surely remain an iconic event in the history of the race.
