[Actual vehicle introduction]
- The Series 10 passenger cars, which took the world by storm with their revolutionary lightweight structure, have spawned a variety of derivative series since the 1960s.
- The Orone 10 was manufactured from 1959 as a second-class sleeper car.
- At the time, the first-class sleeping cars in operation were the Marone 40 and Marone 41 (formerly first-class sleeping cars), as well as the Slone 29 and Slone 30, which were compartment-type, non-air-conditioned second-class sleeping cars. However, due to age and inferior berth width and air-conditioning equipment, they were newly designed to be Pullman-type, with air-conditioning equipment similar to the 20-series passenger cars.
- The Orone 10, which offered improved comfort for each bunk compared to conventional second-class sleeping cars, became very popular, with a total of 97 cars appearing, and they were seen attached to almost all of the JNR night express trains in the 1960s and 1970s.
- This product is a later model in which the emergency exit window was originally fitted as a hinged door, and reproduces the appearance when it was painted in grape color No. 2.
- In 1960, the second-class sleeping cars were renamed first-class sleeping cars when the service was converted to a two-class system, and the following year the class markings under the windows on the side of the cars were changed to light green No. 6 and the cars continued to be used.
