[Actual vehicle introduction]
- The Kiha 53-0 series is a type of suburban diesel railcar, the Kiha 45 series, manufactured from 1966 onwards, and is a powerful model with two driver's cabs and two DMH17 engines.
- The Obama Line connects Tsuruga Station and Higashi-Maizuru Station.
During the pre-electrification era, the Obama Line was managed by the Obama Railway Department of the Kanazawa Branch of JR West Japan Railway Co., Ltd., and featured a variety of JNR-type diesel railcars, including the Kiha 40 series, Kiha 58 series, and Kiha 53, all with an ivory stripe on a blue background.
- In particular, the Kiha 53-3, 4 and 5, which were in service until just before electrification in 2003, are known as the last remaining vehicles of the Kiha 53-0 series, of which 11 were deployed in Western Japan and Kyushu.
