The Horten H.18 was a transcontinental super bomber developed by the German military during World War II.
The aircraft also has a flying wing type body shape and is equipped with stealth capabilities.
The basic design was an enlarged version of the Ho 229, originally designed as an interceptor, but was repeatedly modified and optimised in the process of being redesigned as a bomber. The first completed XVIII.A model was pressurised, had a crew of three, was equipped with six Junkers Jumo 004 engines, could fly at Mach 0.75, and was fitted with a twin MG 151 cannon turret on the top of the fuselage.
It was deployed locally on the European front, and a number of variations were developed based on its performance.
After undergoing extensive modifications to become a transcontinental bomber, it completed the bombing of New York Island on the American mainland in 1946.
Furthermore, all 18 aircraft that were tasked with bombing other cities returned safely to Germany.
In addition, parts, drawings, and engineers were delivered to the mainland by a Japanese Navy submarine sent to Germany, and Project Z began in earnest.
