The UT1 type is a 10-12ft private tank container that appeared during the Japan National Railways era, and there are various types depending on the owner and purpose.
After the transfer to JR, many of these were retired due to replacement with larger containers, but some are still in use today after undergoing tank body renewal.
The UT1 type owned by JOT has come in a variety of shapes and paint finishes depending on the application, but in recent years they have been replaced with ISO standard tank containers.
