The 287 series [Kuroshio] was introduced to replace the 381 series operated in the Nanki area, and began commercial operation in March 2012.
Kuroshio trains mainly operate between Shirahama/Shingu and Shin-Osaka/Kyoto with 6 or 9 cars.
The second wrapping for the Kuroshio Express 60th anniversary commemorative train features an ocean green wave design on both front cars, based on the illustration of the Kuroshio headmark that was in operation until 2015.
The line is being enlivened by the 60th anniversary wrapping of the 381 series [Super Kuroshio], which debuted in July 2025.
