The EF65 series is an electric locomotive that was introduced in 1965 and a total of 308 units were manufactured, and is widely used on DC electrified sections.
The EF65-1000 series locomotives stationed at JR West's Shimonoseki General Rolling Stock Depot have undergone changes to their appearance since the 2020s, including a gray undercarriage paint job, the installation of an air conditioning unit in the driver's cab, and the filling in of one of the windows on the driver's side.
It was used extensively to tow the Salon Car Naniwa, which was in service until 2025, on electrified sections, and was also used to tow construction trains such as the Chiki 5500 and Hoki 800 series.
