The EH500 series is a two-car AC/DC electric locomotive that JR Freight began operating in March 2000.
The EH500 series, belonging to the Sendai General Railway Department, is mainly used to pull freight trains between the Tokyo metropolitan area and Tohoku.
Among the 3rd generation, the first five cars manufactured, No. 10 to No. 14, are characterized by a thick front light cover frame, just like the 2nd generation.
As of 2025, units 12 to 14 have been repainted with a new livery without the JRF marking, while units 10 and 11 are still in service with the original JRF marking.
