Product Description
──A panoramic view of Honshu-Shikoku! Kuro 212 comes in five colors!
[Actual vehicle introduction]
The 213 series was introduced in March 1987, just before the Japanese National Railways was privatized.
The basic structure is the same as the 211 series that was introduced the previous year, but it differs in that it uses a two-door convertible cross seat 1M system.
It was first introduced on the rapid train [Bisan Liner] between Okayama and Uno, and with the opening of the Setouchi Ohashi Line the following year, the operating section changed to Okayama-Takamatsu and the train name was changed to rapid train [Marine Liner].
At the same time, green cars were introduced, and luxurious Kuro 212-type cars with large curved glass bodies for better views, high-decker interiors, and reclining seats that can be fixed to the window side were attached to each train.
All five cars of this train have different livery and seat colors, pleasing to the eyes of passengers.
Demand continued to increase and additional units were added, bringing the total number to 39, including the Super Salon Yumeji, which has the same structure as the Kuro 212 series.
They continued to be in service for a while, but were replaced in 2003 by the successor 223 series 5000 series and 5000 series.
All but one of the Kuro 212 series cars were scrapped, and the other regular cars were converted into some of the leading cars and repurposed for local trains in the Okayama area.
The remaining Kuro 212 series was converted into a business vehicle, but was scrapped in 2019, and all of the distinctive panoramic green cars were retired.
