[Product overview]
The Kiha 110 series is a diesel railcar developed by JR East to improve services on local lines. It comes in a variety of lengths and with both a driver's cab and a single driver's cab, and is used in a wide range of locations depending on the route conditions.
It has acceleration performance comparable to that of a train, making a significant contribution to increasing the speed of local lines.
The Kiha 110 series 200s have sliding passenger doors, and details such as the car length and gutters vary depending on the manufacturing period.
The Kiha 111/112 series are single-cab vehicles, and the Kiha 112 series has a toilet installed at the end of the car.
These trains are currently in operation in one to three-car formations on the non-electrified section of the Hachiko Line (between Koma River and Takasaki stations), but their replacement with the new HB-E220 series will begin in December 2025, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2026.
