Product Description
Introducing a completely new 1/144 Nordenfeld-I steam-powered submarine injection plastic kit from Micromir of Ukraine.
The Nordenfeld-I was first developed and manufactured by Swedish inventor Thorsten Nordenfeld and British inventor George Garrett.
With a cruising range of 240 km and equipped with a 25.4 mm machine gun and one torpedo, this ship was built between 1884 and 1885.
Although the ship required the crew to shut down the boilers and retract the smokestack when submerged, it was possible to operate underwater for short periods by storing steam in a steam accumulator tank while surfaced and using that steam to power the engines when submerged.
After being purchased by the Greek government, the Nordenfeld I was towed to the Salamis naval base in 1886 for acceptance trials, but it was never used by the Greek Navy and was scrapped in 1901.
The kit includes photo-etched parts and a display stand.
The finished product will be approximately 135mm in length.
