We are pleased to announce a new product from SBS Models of Hungary: a 1/72 scale Rayag 43 prototype trainer full resin kit.
The Rayak 43 is a single-engine, two-seat prototype trainer aircraft designed and manufactured by the Free French Forces at the Rayak Air Base in Lebanon.
In 1942, French General de Gaulle appointed Jean Demozet, a Free French Air Force ace pilot, as commander of the French Air Force in the Middle East in order to reorganize the French Air Force by having French instructors train French pilots in French-made aircraft at French military bases.
Although Demoze was assigned to the Rayak base, there were no training aircraft at the base, so he planned to manufacture a new training aircraft based on a Caudron C.600 liaison aircraft that had been left abandoned at the base for many years after an accident.
To produce the aircraft, they purchased aircraft plywood from Turkey and acquired a Gypsy Major engine for the DH Tiger Moth from the British Royal Air Force in North Africa. A prototype was completed in March 1944, and after a successful maiden flight, it was named Rayak 43.
However, a month later, Demodze was invited to Russia, and the new commander of the Rayak base who took his place canceled the mass production plan for the Rayak 43, and all 12 aircraft that were under construction were scrapped.
The kit includes a clear resin windshield part, photo-etched parts, and one type of decal.
SBS Models' full resin kits are designed with the modeler in mind, prioritizing ease of assembly by minimizing the number of parts while incorporating delicate details that are difficult to reproduce with injection molding.
