The Toei Shinjuku Line had been using the 10-000 series since its opening in 1978, but the 10-300 series was introduced in 2005 to replace the aging early production vehicles and to update the safety equipment.
This train is based on JR East's E231 series, incorporating unique specifications from the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation. This reduces development and manufacturing costs, and the train was designed with the concepts of [reducing life cycle costs] and [being a train that is friendly to people and the environment].
The car body is made of lightweight stainless steel and has a reduced cross-section to comply with the vehicle clearance limits of the Toei Shinjuku Line.
