About the actual car
The King Tiger heavy tank, equipped with the highly powerful 88mm gun as its main armament, was completed in 1943 during World War II and entered service in 1944. It adopted the 71-caliber 88mm KwK43 tank gun, which had a longer barrel than the Tiger I. In addition, its turret frontal armor reached 180mm and its hull maximum armor reached 150mm, making it a formidable tank that could withstand any Allied anti-tank gun. During the development stage, the Porsche and Henschel designs competed, and early vehicles were equipped with a curved turret, commonly known as the "Porsche turret." Later, mass-produced vehicles switched to the shape commonly known as the "Henschel turret."
In the later stages of the war, many German tanks were fitted with Zimmerit coating on their hulls as a countermeasure against magnetic anti-tank mines. This coating applied a non-magnetic material to the hull surface to neutralize the use of magnetic mines.
About the model
This is a new kit from the Dorami brand, based on a masterpiece previously released by Dragon.
This is a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit that recreates the King Tiger from World War II. In particular, it features the vehicles of the German Wehrmacht's 505th Heavy Tank Battalion, which was equipped with King Tigers in September 1944 and fought valiantly against the Soviet army on the Eastern Front, starting in Poland. The hull, turret, and other parts are sharply finished. Furthermore, the turret and hull are reproduced with the Zimmerit coating applied to protect against magnetic mines. The details and shape of the coating are also accurately modeled. Two types of turret parts are included: one that reproduces the standard Zimmerit coating and another that reproduces the pattern applied to the vehicles of the 505th Heavy Tank Battalion. Decals of the knight on horseback with a lance drawn on the side of the turret are also provided.
