[Actual vehicle guide]
- The Kiha 40 series is a general-purpose diesel car developed by the Japanese National Railways and introduced in 1977.
- The Kiha 40 Series 1700 is a model that has been further improved to extend its lifespan compared to the 700 Series, which is a one-man version of the 100 Series for extremely cold regions.
- Vehicles belonging to the Hakodate Transport Office and Tomakomai Depot are characterized by the fact that many of them still have typhoons and jumper plug preparations buried in the front.
- The Kiha 40 belonging to Asahikawa Depot and Kushiro Transport Depot (retired) has had the typhoon on the front removed and is characterized by a whistle installed on the top of the driver's cab.
- As of September 2024, they are deployed in Hakodate, Tomakomai, Asahikawa, and Naebo, and are active on the Hakodate Main Line, Muroran Main Line, Hidaka Line, Nemuro Main Line, and Sekihoku Main Line.
- The Kiha 40 series has supported transportation in Hokkaido for 48 years since its introduction in 1977, but is scheduled to be retired from regular service in March 2025.

- High grade (HG) specification
- Jumper hose can be reproduced three-dimensionally using separate parts
- Head and tail lights and front display are equipped with constant lighting boards and ON-OFF switches
- Head and tail lights and front display are illuminated by white LEDs
- The headlights use color prisms to produce a color close to that of an incandescent bulb.
- The front display is replaceable and comes with a printed part [One Man]
- Car number and affiliation notation are selectable and a transfer sheet is included
- Shoe rails and door rails are printed
