When Kansai International Airport opened in September 1994, the Nankai 50000 series express train, the Rapi:t, was introduced for airport access.
It debuted with an unprecedented and bold design, including a unique shape reminiscent of an aircraft, such as a front shape resembling a three-dimensional curved sphere, oval side windows, and a deep Rapi:t Blue (blue mica) body paint job. Even now, more than 30 years later, it remains one of the most popular railway cars in Japan.

The main controller uses GTO-VVVF inverter control, and with a top speed of 120km/h, the train covers the distance between Namba and Kansai Airport in as little as 29 minutes.
