[About the actual car]
The T42 is a new medium tank whose development began in 1949 after the Second World War.
As development work continued, the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950 meant that the development of a new tank was urgently needed, and plans were revised to mount a T42 turret on the body of an M46 tank.
In 1951 it was formalized as the M47 and mass production began.
The engine is a Continental 4-stroke V12 air-cooled gasoline engine that produces 810 horsepower.
The main gun was equipped with a 50-caliber 90 mm rifled gun M36.
They were deployed to units from 1952, and although they were not ready in time for the Korean War, over 8,000 were produced.
As its successor, the M48, began production in 1952, the M47 was soon retired from the US military. Although its useful life was short, it was later provided to NATO countries, South Korea, Taiwan, and other countries, where it continued to be used.
