──Pre-painted kit of Kiha 22 type featuring double-tiered windows

The Kiha 22 type is a general-purpose diesel railcar that was created in 1958 (Showa 33) as a derivative of the Kiha 20 type for use in extremely cold regions.
They were deployed not only in Hokkaido but also in Morioka and Akita in the northern Tohoku region.
Compared to the Kiha 20, the Kiha 22 is characterized by a front window that is placed slightly higher, small double-glazed windows in the passenger compartment, passenger compartment doors moved to the end of the car, and a deck.
They were mainly used as local trains on various lines in the areas where they were introduced, and also ran as express trains on local lines within Hokkaido.
In later years, some of the cars were converted to one-man operation or transferred to local private railways.
