From 1979, cars without ATC were added to some lines, and rear door pocket windows were installed on the sides of the driver's compartment.
The cars belonging to the Matsudo Rolling Stock Center were not only operated in the basic 10-car formation, but also coupled with an additional 5-car formation to form the longest 15-car formation for the 103 series.
The 103 series remained in service in the Tokyo metropolitan area until its final years in 2006, but was sadly retired with the introduction of its successor.
