[About the actual machine]
The Macchi MC.200 Saetta was a fighter aircraft developed by Italy in accordance with Plan R, which aimed to modernize the air force before World War II.
The aircraft, designed by Macchi engineer Mario Castoldi, is equipped with a Fiat A74RC38 radial air-cooled 14-cylinder engine that produces 870 horsepower.
The aircraft's design was characterized by a cowling that was narrowed to the limit to reduce air resistance.
It first flew in 1937, was standardized in 1938, and began to be deployed to units in 1940.
He also took part in the campaign against France, the North African front, and the Eastern front.
It proved to be a great success thanks to its excellent maneuverability and top speed of 503km/h.
