The Curtiss XP-55 was a prototype fighter aircraft built by Curtiss for the United States Army Air Forces.
In November 1939, the U.S. Army Air Corps presented manufacturers with specifications for a single-seat interceptor fighter powered by P&W's prototype X-1800-A3G engine. In response, Curtiss proposed a canard-shaped design with a propeller at the rear of the fuselage and a small wing near the nose.
