The BL 4.5-inch medium gun was a medium gun used by the British Army from the early stages of World War II.
Developed as a successor to the BL 60-pounder gun, the barrel was a newly designed one, but the Mk.1 used the BL 60-pounder gun's carriage and recoil mechanism.
The Mk.2 had its gun mount changed to that of a BL 5.5-inch gun, which increased the horizontal firing angle.
The BL 4.5-inch medium gun had a longer range than the 5.5-inch gun, but its small caliber meant it was less destructive against hardened targets. Therefore, shortly after the end of the war, it was used for training purposes and was decommissioned in 1959.
