The An-12 is a four-engine turboprop transport aircraft developed by the Antonov Design Bureau, and is a cargo variant of the An-10 passenger aircraft also developed by the same design bureau.
The prototype first flew in 1957 and entered combat service in 1959. Production of the An-12 ended in 1972 after 1,243 aircraft were manufactured.
Of these, approximately 900 were produced for civilian use and were used not only in the Soviet Union but also in socialist countries such as Eastern Europe and some Western countries.
