The battleship Giulio Cesare was a dreadnought battleship of the Royal Italian Navy, completed during World War I, and was the second ship of the Conte di Cavour class.
When commissioned in 1914, the ship had a length of 176m and a displacement of 25,086 tons. During modernization refits from 1933 to 1937, the bow was extended by approximately 10m, bringing the total length to 186.4m, and the propulsion system was changed from 20 water-tube boilers/3 turbines to 8 water-tube boilers/2 geared turbines.
As a result, despite an increase in displacement to 29,600 tons, the maximum speed increased from 21.5 knots to 28 knots, and the armament consisted of two triple 32cm guns + two twin 32cm guns, six twin 12cm rapid-fire guns, four twin 100mm anti-aircraft guns, six twin 37mm autocannons, and six twin 13.2mm machine guns.
Giulio Cesare, who participated in the Battle of Calabria and the First Battle of Sirte during World War II, was disarmed on the island of Malta after Italy's surrender in 1943.
After the war, it was handed over to the Soviet Union as a war prize and renamed [Novorossiysk].
The Novorossiysk capsized in an underwater explosion in Sevastopol in 1955, was decommissioned in 1956, and was salvaged and dismantled in 1957.
