Advances in air power and mechanization, which improved the mobility of ground forces, dramatically changed the course of combat in World War II.
Amidst these circumstances, various anti-aircraft weapons were developed to counter ground attacks by aircraft, and fierce battles were waged against the approaching aircraft.
The M16 was one of the self-propelled anti-aircraft guns used by the U.S. military during World War II.
Produced from 1942 to 1943, it featured a chassis based on the M3 Half-track, mounted with a quadruple .50 caliber (12.7mm) Browning heavy machine gun.
The Browning, with its four-barreled firing range of 450-555 rounds per minute, muzzle velocity of 893 m/s, and maximum range of 6767 m, was so powerful that it earned the nickname "meat cleaver."
The gun mount was an M45 type, electrically operated with 360-degree rotation, a depression angle of -10 degrees, an elevation angle of 90 degrees, and a rotation and elevation speed of 60 degrees per second.
Not only is it highly effective against airborne targets, but the quadruple launchers also demonstrate great power against ground targets.
It also played an active role in the Korean War after World War II, and was even deployed by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force at one point.

[Model details]
1/35 scale, 189mm in length.
This is a plastic model assembly kit that recreates the M16, a self-propelled anti-aircraft machine gun used by the US military during World War II.
The gunnery mount, equipped with four 12.7mm Browning heavy machine guns, features a mechanically detailed finish. Just like the real vehicle, it can rotate 360 degrees after completion, and the machine guns can move up and down in conjunction with the sights.
The machine gunner's seat is fitted with a figure of a gunner aiming at an enemy aircraft, the cockpit has a figure of a driver looking back at the sky, and the passenger seat has a figure of an operator making contact via radio in a tense pose.
The ladder frame chassis and open-top interior are also realistically reproduced.
