[About the actual device]
- The EA-6B Prowler was an electronic warfare aircraft operated by the U.S. Navy from 1971.
- Based on the A-6 Intruder carrier-based attack aircraft, the Prowler extends the A-6 Intruder's airframe to accommodate a total of four people: the pilot and three electronic warfare personnel.
Furthermore, equipped with various electronic devices, it performed a wide range of electronic warfare missions, including neutralizing surface-to-air missile guidance radars, electronic jamming, and collecting enemy radio intelligence.
-It is said that mass production began in 1969, and 170 units were produced until production ended in 1991, with modifications being made to improve their capabilities along the way.
- It was deployed on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and also operated by the Marine Corps, demonstrating its wide range of capabilities.
In 1976, the year of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the United States, aircraft with commemorative paint schemes were produced by various units to celebrate the nation's founding.
