Product Description
Akashi was a ship that the Imperial Japanese Navy had long desired, and it was the only one newly built as a repair ship, completed in 1939.
Because the ship houses various factories on board, it adopts a horizontal deck design.
The forward funnel was dedicated to the ship's onboard workshop and was equipped with five large derrick cranes for handling damaged parts, repair and replacement parts, and supplies.
The ship was equipped with numerous specialized workshops and toolrooms, including a machine shop, casting facilities, welding facilities, and electrical equipment, giving it world-class repair capabilities as a mobile factory at sea.
