Product Description

Of the 32 Matsu-class destroyers built as wartime hastily constructed ships, the later 14, which featured further simplification of their structure, were also known as the Tachibana-class (or modified Matsu-class).
The primary mission of this class of ship was to support convoy escort during amphibious landings and resupply operations. It was equipped with anti-aircraft guns, anti-submarine torpedo tubes, depth charge launchers, and depth charge rails, and also carried two 10-meter special cargo ships (small landing craft) for troop transport and resupply.
The Tachibana was completed at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal in January 1945, but was sunk in July of the same year by an air raid by Allied aircraft off the coast of Hakodate.
Furthermore, as the war situation worsened, the sister ships Take, Nashi, Shii, Kaya, and Kaba underwent modifications to install mounting platforms for the special weapon Kaiten at their sterns.
