[About the actual device]
The T-2 is an advanced trainer aircraft that has produced many of the elite pilots of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force who protect Japan's skies.
It was the first supersonic aircraft developed independently in Japan.
It made its maiden flight in 1971, entered service in 1974, and remained in active service until 2006.
The aircraft is equipped with two TF40-IHI-801A turbofan engines manufactured by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries.
It boasted a maximum speed of Mach 1.6.
The aircraft was divided into an early model used for basic combat pilot training without any weapons, and a later model used for subsequent combat pilot training, the latter of which was equipped with machine guns and other weapons.
The T-2, once put into service, played a vital role in training elite pilots who protect Japan's skies.
It is said that 1,450 pilots were trained on the T-2 before it was retired.
