The CH-47J is a large helicopter that the Japan Self-Defense Forces began introducing in the 1980s.
Based on the CH-47 Chinook helicopter, which was developed by the United States in the 1960s and entered service in 1962, this version has been modified to suit the specifications of the Japan Self-Defense Forces.
The base model is the CH-47D type, which debuted in 1982 and is deployed by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
In the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, it plays an active role in transporting personnel and supplies.
The aircraft can open a hatch at the rear to allow vehicles such as high-mobility vehicles to be loaded into the cabin under their own power. Additionally, it can use cargo hooks on the underside of the aircraft to suspend and transport light armored vehicles and artillery pieces such as 120mm mortars.
The car is equipped with two T55-K-712 turboshaft engines.
It boasts a maximum passenger capacity of 55 people and a maximum load capacity of approximately 8 tons.
