[Actual vehicle introduction]
- Kiha 65-611, 1611 (green stripe) and Kiha 65-712, 1712 (yellow stripe) were completed in December of the following year as additional cars to the Edel Tango, a modified Kiha 65 with an observation room that was introduced in 1988.
- As this is a vehicle for adding to a carriage, the front design is based on that of the original car, but the driver's cab has been converted into a semi-compartment and an observation room has been installed on the passenger side, and the asymmetrical shape of the front window and the headlights have been moved to the front display area give it a unique look.
- The body color is based on the aforementioned Edel Tango, with the ivory background and JR West's corporate color blue stripe remaining unchanged, and two cars each are decorated with green and yellow stripes, which are the theme colors.
- In addition, the coupler is being replaced so that the train can be coupled with the Edel Tango, which can be coupled with express trains.
- Kiha 65-611 and 1611 are compatible with the Edel series as well as express trains, and in addition to the heavy passenger service coupled with express trains to the Hokuriku region, they were also used in a variety of formations including mixed trains with their colleagues Edel Tango and Resort & Shupur yellow stripe formations, as well as Edel Kitakinki and Edel Tottori, and continued to be widely used in various parts of JR West Japan until October 2010.
