Product Description

- Planned as a successor to the Zero Fighter, the 17th Experimental Carrier-Based Fighter (later named the Experimental Reppu) was a requirement submitted by the Navy in 1942, as the name suggests.
- The design was difficult due to the excessive performance requirements and the lack of room for choice of engine, and due to the preoccupation with the production and modification of the Zero Fighter and Raiden, which were currently in service, the first prototype was not completed until April 1944.
- During its first flight, both its maneuverability and flight stability were highly praised, but due to insufficient engine power, its speed and climbing performance were far from the required values, and modifications continued until the end of the war.
