- The Tsudoi was introduced in 2013 as a modified 2000 series train to coincide with the Ise Shrine's Shikinen Sengu (periodical rebuilding of the shrine).
- Originally it was operated as a tourist train mainly between Ise-shi and Kashikojima, and the carriages were decorated with colorful illustrations depicting the attractions of Ise Grand Shrine and the areas around Ise, Toba, and Shima.
- In 2024, the design will be based on the theme of "People and nature coming together to enjoy a lively and lively time," and the exterior will be redesigned with a yellow-green main color, while the interior decoration, including the carpet and table colors, will have an overall brighter atmosphere.
- It is used as an event train, cycle train or beer train.
