The Kiha 185 series is a diesel express train that has been manufactured since 1986.
After the privatization of the Japanese National Railways, all of the same trains were inherited by JR Shikoku, and more were added afterwards.
Some of the carriages were later transferred to JR Kyushu, but they continue to be used on limited express trains within JR Shikoku, including the Uzushio, Tsurugisan, and Muroto lines.
The Muroto Limited Express train ran between Tokushima and Mugi on the Mugi Line and was discontinued on March 14, 2025.
On the same day, the Kiha 185 series also ended operation on the Uzushio express train.

One car in each set will feature the original side wrapping of the Island Express Shikoku II.
The "Goodbye Muroto" set will include a booklet compiled by the magazine "Railway Fan" published by Koyusha, which will document the history of the "Muroto" and its final day of operation.
