Product Description
--Reproduces the single-armed appearance of the 201 series 10-car through-hole formation (T formation) that was active on the Chuo Line rapid train
[Actual vehicle guide]
The 201 series was the first armature chopper controlled car of the Japanese National Railways, and a prototype was introduced in 1979.
This commuter train began mass production in 1981 after its energy-saving effects were proven.
The trains were introduced to replace the 101 and 103 series on the Chuo Line, and due to the operational circumstances of the line, two types were introduced: a 4-car + 6-car split train and a 10-car through train.
In 1985, the last 101 series was retired and the transition to the 201 series was completed.
After privatization in 1993, modifications were made to the trains, such as the installation of skirts and electric type displays on the front, which significantly changed the impression of the front compared to the previous 201 series.
In 2000, the pantographs of the 10-car fixed formations were replaced with single-arm PS35C pantographs as a countermeasure against snowfall.
Replacement with the successor E233 series began in 2005, with the 10-car through trains being retired in 2008 and the split trains being retired by 2010.
In its later years, the 10-car through train was active on the Chuo Line (Tokyo to Otsuki) as well as the Ome Line (Tachikawa to Ome).

The single-arm PS35C pantograph, a feature of the later Chuo Line and through-train formations, is reproduced with a new production.
