Product Description

──100th anniversary of the Yorii extension! Classic style 8000 type!

[Actual vehicle introduction]
In 1963, Tobu Railway introduced the 8000 series, a high-performance commuter train.
The cars are made of ordinary steel and feature four 20m-class double-hinged doors on one side. The unique specifications omit the door pocket windows and raise the rain gutters. They are notable for their rational aspects, such as omitting electric brakes in line with the conditions of the lines they are used on, and for their well-balanced design that focuses on key equipment, such as the use of air suspension bogies and multi-stage control. They are known as famous cars, with a total of 712 cars manufactured by 1983, the most of any single series of private railway trains in Japan.
When first introduced, the trains were non-air-conditioned and had the standard two-tone international orange and royal beige color scheme of Tobu Railway's commuter trains, but from the 1972 production cars onwards, air conditioning was installed.
From the 1970s to the 1980s, non-air-conditioned cars were gradually converted to air-conditioning and the body color was changed to sage cream, and the bogies were changed from cars manufactured in 1976.
Around 1985, the body color was changed to a Jasmine White base with Refresh Blue and Royal Blue stripes, and the following year, large-scale repair work on the body began, resulting in a wide variety of variations depending on the work carried out.
In 2005, with the introduction of one-man operation on the terminal sections of the Tojo Line, some 4-car 8000 series trains were modified to accommodate this.
In 2008, the operating area of the Ogose Line was expanded when it became a one-man operation line.
In 2025, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the extension of the Tobu Tojo Line to Yorii Station, one of the 8000 series trains was repainted in the "grape color No. 1" image of the body color of the trains at the time, which became a hot topic.
