Akebono was a sleeper express train that ran between Ueno and Aomori.
The train used to run via the Tohoku Main Line, but with the opening of the Akita Shinkansen in 1997, the route was changed to the Joetsu Line, Shinetsu Main Line, and Uetsu Main Line, and it continued to operate as a regular train until March 2014.
In addition to the three private sleeping cars, there were also Goron and Seat and Ladies Goron and Seat cars that could only be boarded with a regular ticket or reserved seat, making for a unique formation with a wide variety of vehicles.

The Ohanfu 25-100/200 series and the Ohane 25-100 series (gold stripe) are newly manufactured with smooth emergency exits and no stripe engraving.
The Ohane 24-0 gold stripe is a vehicle that has been modified to have sliding doors, reproducing a stripe shape different from that of the Hokutosei era.
The Slone 24-552 type is a vehicle modified from the Orone 14 type, and has a different aisle window arrangement than the 553 in the Goodbye Akebono set, and reproduces the handrail shape at the end of the car derived from the 14 series.
The Ohane 24-550 series has one car with a standard stripe shape (No. 551 and No. 553) and one car with a gold stripe above the boarding door (No. 555).
The Ohanfu 24-0 gold stripe is a vehicle that has been converted to a sliding door, and the bottom stripe does not wrap around the end of the vehicle, reproducing the No. 12 model. The logo mark of the Goron and seat car is printed.

The Ohanfu 25-200 series has a reduced conductor's room window and a smooth emergency exit area. The body is newly produced without band engraving and the Ladies Goron and seat logos are printed on it.
The Ohane 24-0 gold stripe is a vehicle that has been modified to have sliding doors, reproducing a stripe shape different from that of the Hokutosei era.
Of the Ohane 24-550 series, one car reproduces the 555 model without a stripe above the passenger door.
The Sloné 24-550 series is a newly produced No. 552, which was modified from the Orone 14 series, and reproduces the different aisle window arrangement and side handrail arrangement from the 14 series.

Kani 24-100 type reproduces the gold band and engine renewal car No. 112
The conductor's compartment side of the Ohanfu 25-200 series is already fitted with a TN coupler, and the conductor's compartment side of the Kani 24-100 series comes with a replacement TN coupler.
Taillights and train marks are equipped with a constant lighting board, and the Ohanfu 25-200 type has an ON-OFF switch
