Product Description

The Mogami, as it appeared in 1941-1942 after its main guns were replaced and it was transformed into a heavy cruiser, is now available as a full-hull model using a dedicated mold.

[Basic Specifications]
• This product is an unpainted kit that requires gluing, assembly, and painting.
The scale is 1/700, and it is a full-hull model including the bottom of the ship.
This product is composed of conventional (special series) molds and newly added molds.
- The product configuration uses molds designed in 2025 for the waterline portion and in 2019 for the above-water portion.

[Product Specifications]
The product is based on the Mogami-class destroyer [Mogami] as it appeared from the start of the war in 1941 to the Battle of Midway in 1942.
→The hull cross-sectional shape differs from the 3rd and 4th ships, Suzuya/Kumano, and the presence or absence of air intake trunks due to the larger number of boiler rooms, as well as the difference in chimney diameter, are reproduced.
→The un-blocked portholes, as seen before the modifications based on combat experience, are reproduced using dedicated parts.
→The aft mast, which is a difference from the second ship, Mikuma, is reproduced with dedicated parts.

- hull
- For the early Mogami-class ships [Mogami and Mikuma], the hull parts with a non-sloping side (mid-deck level) are specially made.
→The cross-sectional shape of the hull side is a specially molded part that differs from that of the later ships Suzuya and Kumano.
→The width of the anti-aircraft gun deck is 1.0 mm wider (on the model) than that of the Suzuya/Kumano and is constructed with dedicated parts.
→The external electrical wiring is molded as an integral part of the hull, representing a different running shape from the Mikuma/Suzuya/Kumano.
The numerous portholes, left unclosed and lining the sides of the hull, are reproduced with delicate carvings.
→The parts were created using a dedicated mold, differentiating them from those used when the sides of the hull of the Mogami/Suzuya/Kumano were closed off after 1943.
- A split-part construction with left and right sections, and a structure that divides the freeboard and hull bottom at the waterline.

- Bridge
- The bridge windows can be made more realistic using transparent parts.
- Bridge structure parts specifically designed for the Mogami/Mikuma, which lack boiler room air intakes on the sides of the bridge, were used.
- The floors of the air defense command post and the compass bridge feature delicately sculpted grating patterns.
- The air defense command post comes with binoculars that can be attached to enhance its realism.
- The machine gun mounts in front of the bridge feature 13mm twin machine guns, using dedicated parts to recreate the differences from the ships built after 1943.
- The forward mast is a simple tripod structure without radar, reproduced with only two parts.

- Equipment/Central section
- The boiler room air intake trunk, which is only installed on the early models of the Mogami/Mikuma, is reproduced using a dedicated part in front of the bridge.
The earlier Mogami-class destroyers were equipped with 12 boilers, more than the later models, and featured a distinctive, thick smokestack.
→Shape created using a separate, dedicated part, unlike the narrow type of front smoker on the Suzuya and Kumano.
- The funnel cap is a molded part in a [detached state].
- The steam exhaust pipe is designed as a separate part to enhance the sense of precision.

- The structure behind the chimney (below the searchlight) uses parts specifically designed for the Mogami/Mikuma.
- The linoleum deck has a different layout of ventilation shafts and equipment compared to the Suzuya/Kumano, so it requires special parts.
- The 12.7 cm twin anti-aircraft gun mount is a part exclusive to the Mogami/Mikuma, and is an early model ship part that does not have a protruding shape on the underside of the mount.

- The torpedo tubes are separate parts specifically developed for heavy cruisers, distinct from those used on the existing aircraft cruiser Mogami.
- The torpedo tube positions can be selected and reproduced in any orientation.
→It is possible to reproduce the normal state along the center line and the rotated launch stance.

- The shelter section, which is equipped with torpedo tubes, has been modeled in 3D based on official diagrams, including the spare torpedo storage area.
The floor surface features a striped pattern reproduced with delicate, high-quality carvings.

- The catapult (Kure Type 2 Model 5) features realistic side and top details reproduced using slide molding.
- The central part of the aircraft handling deck is constructed with a special component that lacks the air intakes found on later ships.

- Fittings/Stern
- The aft mast is a special part exclusive to the Mogami, reproducing the distinctive crossbeam height of the individual ship.
- Special parts to represent the absence of radar, which differs from aircraft cruisers built after 1943.
- The aft mast comes with a special top-mounted part that features a rearward-sloping top and a Y-shaped yard.
- The hoist crane reproduces the shape differences from later ships, and features a distinctive lightening hole shape with intricate sculpting.

- The sides of the aft bridge feature specially designed parts that reproduce the air intakes, which are positioned differently from those on later ships.
- The antenna masts installed on the roofs of the 3rd and 4th main gun turrets are custom-made parts that reproduce the unique shape of each ship.

- Equipment/Weapons
- The main gun barrels have a fixed elevation angle, but the turrets can be rotated even after completion.
- The 25mm twin machine gun mount comes with precision machine gun parts, with the barrel and mount separated into individual parts.
→The molded colors are battleship gray for the base and gunmetal for the barrel.
→For painting, the design makes it easy to paint and paint each color separately by assembling and gluing the parts together on the runners after each color has been painted.

- Bottom
- The hull bottom is constructed as a single, integrated piece for both the left and right sides.
- The side bulges below the waterline are separate parts, while the hull bulges above the waterline are represented as an integral part of the hull.
- Realistic representation of the shaft bracket shape and the curved shape of the eddy plate.
- The thickness of the rudder mounting section is reproduced, and the surface of the balanced twin rudders is engraved to create a three-dimensional design.
- The hull's bottom features engraved representations of the water intake and drainage ports.
- The bilge keel is integrated with the bulge, and the bulge replicates the larger external shape after performance improvements.

- Carrier-based aircraft
Includes one Type 0 (three-seat) seaplane and two Type 95 seaplanes.
→The Type 95 Reconnaissance Seaplane features separate parts for the upper wing and three floats, resulting in a highly detailed design.
→The Zero-type seaplane has a structure in which the main float and propeller are separate parts.
- The molded color is gray to improve workability (prevent damage during gate cutting).

- Decals
Two types of decals, a total of two sheets, are included.
- One decal sheet containing markings such as the naval ensign, national flag, and the Hinomaru (Japanese flag) on carrier-based aircraft.
→Naval ensigns and other flags are available in three sizes. The dimensions of the actual 10-width, 6-width, and 3-width flags are scaled to 1/700.
→Includes the Hinomaru (Japanese national emblem) and friendly identification stripes (yellow stripes) on carrier-based aircraft, and the Hinomaru also includes those from the later stages of the war that lacked the white border.
- Includes one decal sheet featuring the ship's name at the stern, white lines for the aft mast, waterline markings, and more.
→The ship's name on the stern comes in two variations: gold and full battleship gray.
