The 3000 series was introduced in 1961 with the opening of the Hibiya Line of the Tokyo Metro.
Based on the [Line 2 Vehicle Specifications] for through service with the Tobu Line and Tokyu Line, this 18-meter-long, three-door car was the first stainless steel car for the Teito Rapid Transit Authority (now Tokyo Metro), and its rounded front end later became affectionately known as the "Sperm Whale" by fans.
