Product Description
The Allen M. Sumner-class destroyers were commissioned sequentially starting in January 1944 as an enlarged and improved version of the Fletcher-class.
The overall length remained unchanged from the previous class, but the width was increased by approximately 40 cm to improve stability. In addition, the main armament was changed from five 12.7 cm single guns to three twin guns (six guns in total), and two quadruple and two twin 40 mm machine guns were added, significantly strengthening the anti-aircraft armament.
By the end of the war, 55 ships had entered service and participated mainly in operations in the Pacific.
