――The EF18 is a locomotive that was originally being manufactured as EF58-32 to 34, but was diverted to cargo by changing the gear ratio and loading dead weight. Since the scheduled number of EF58 was taken over as it was and became EF18-32 to 34, there is no 32 to 34 in EF58. It differs from the EF58 in that it has seven windows on the machine room side and a ventilation port on the front of the driver's cab. After its completion, it was temporarily used for the Ou Main Line in the Fukushima Motive Power Depot, then changed to the Hamamatsu Motive Power Depot and used for cargo towing and shunting in the Shizuoka and Hamamatsu areas.
--Unit 32 was manufactured by Tokyo Shibaura Electric on May 31, 1951, and was scrapped on January 12, 1979.
