- The 713 series is an interchange-only suburban train that appeared in July 1983 with the aim of converting local trains in the Kyushu area, which were previously operated by passenger cars, to electric trains. The car body is a 2-door semi-cross seat similar to the 417 series. The control system is thyristor phase control, which enables regenerative braking for the first time in an AC train, and the main motor is equipped with the newly designed MT61. Although it is a two-car train consisting of Kumoha and Kuha, a three-car train with the addition of an accompanying car was also considered in terms of performance. There are 8 cars in 4 formations in the Minami-Fukuoka train district, and they were used for a long time on the Nagasaki Main Line, etc., but now they have been renewed and remodeled as Miyazaki Airport Access Trains, and are placed at the Kagoshima General Depot and used mainly on the Miyazaki Airport Line. It is active on the Toyo Main Line and other lines.
