- Hojo Railway is a third sector railway that connects Ao in Hyogo Prefecture and Hojo Town, and was born in April 1985 by conversion from the JNR Hojo Line.
- The Kiha 40-535 is a former JR (Japanese National Railways) diesel car, and will be introduced to the Hojo Railway for the purpose of increasing its transportation capacity.
- It was delivered to Hojo Railway in December 2021, and since then preparations have been made for the start of operation, and commercial operation started on March 13, 2022.
