Refrigerated trucks, which transport fresh foods such as fresh fish at low temperatures, are deeply connected to Japan's food culture.Those known as ice-free tank trucks do not have their own cooling source, but instead rely on the ice stored inside the cargo crates, or on ice or dry ice loaded separately from the cargo, for cooling capacity.
Its simple structure, which can be described as a "mobile insulated box," allows it to be manufactured at relatively low cost. It has long been valued for its suitability as the smallest unit for transporting fresh fish, and its ease of finely adjusting transportation according to catch volume and market price.
The Le5000 was a 12-ton ice-free tub-type refrigerated car, 535 of which were manufactured between 1936 and 1946.The Le6000, which had the same configuration but shorter axles, was followed by 388 Le6000s by 1947, and is a car that should be remembered as a meritorious vehicle that secretly supported Japan's financial situation during the war and the period of material shortages immediately after the end of the war.
Some were modified to have two-stage links during the Yonsanto revision, but eventually disappeared by the early 1970s.
