The Nagoya Railroad 5500 series is a general-purpose electric train manufactured in 1959, and is known as Japan's first public air-conditioned train that does not require a special fare.
The car body is a 19m-class, two-door train with a neat appearance featuring a row of two unit windows. The running gear uses the high-performance cardan mechanism of the all-electric car system established in the 5000 series and 5200 series, but a new packaged control device has been introduced to ensure power supply for air conditioning.
The interior is lined with comfortable convertible cross seats.
Four-car and two-car formations were made, and these could be coupled with the 5000 series and 7000 series, commonly known as "SR cars," to form formations ranging from short to long.
Initially, it was a two-tone pink and brown color, but after going through a straw cream color scheme, it was changed to a scarf color around 1970.
The paint was changed to red.
In addition, special maintenance was carried out from around 1980, and on the exterior the end windows were removed and the wiring around the roof-mounted fuse box was changed. The 5500 series was in service for a long time as a general-purpose train on various lines, but was withdrawn from service in 2005.
The front end of Mo 5517 is currently preserved at the Maiki Inspection Yard.
This product recreates the appearance of the Meitetsu 5500 series from the Scarlet era, before the special maintenance, and in particular the appearance before the front handrails were installed and the hood remained, before 1978. You can enjoy creating various formations by combining the four-car set with power and the two-car set without power.
