The Kiha 181 series in Shikoku has been used as a limited express diesel railcar connecting various regions since the days of the Japanese National Railways, and 44 cars were inherited even after the transition to JR.
After the transfer to JR, the trains were repainted in JR Shikoku's corporate colors of ivory and sky blue, giving them a completely new image. The interiors were also changed to reclining seats similar to those of the Kiha 185, and the KiRo 180 series was converted into a half-room green car, the KiRoHa 180 series, in response to the increased number of express trains and the shortening of train formations.
They served as express trains such as the Nanpu, Ashizuri, and Shimanto on the Tosan Line, and the Shiokaze, Ishizuchi, and Uwakai on the Yosan Line until they were withdrawn from regular service in 1993.

The Shiokaze/Ishizuchi 8-car set includes a different lineup from the 5-car set, including Kiha 181 series 100s, which are Kiha 180s converted into lead cars, Kiroha 180s converted from Kiha 180s, and Kiha 181s with shutter-type typhoons.
By combining each set, you can recreate the various variations of train formations seen on the actual train.

The tablet catcher and protective plate of the Kiha 181 have been removed, and the JR radio antenna equipment, emergency door and louver closure at the bottom of the car body, and dampers on the coupling surface have been removed to recreate the appearance.
The rain gutter at the front of the Kiha 181 is reproduced. Different typhoon shapes are created for each vehicle (Shutter: Kiha 181-38, 103 / Slit: Kiha 181-6, 34, 39, 40). Kiha 181-39 is not equipped with a snowplow. Also, Kiha 181, which is placed in the middle of the train, has a hood installed at the front.
The 8-car set for Shiokaze and Ishizuchi includes the Kiha 181 100 series, which has been converted into a leading car. The toilet and washroom windows at the end of the car are blocked off, the equipment room is short, there is no small window adjacent to the equipment room, and there is no rain gutter at the front.
Kiroha 180-2/-3 are modified Kiro 180 100 series cars, and have a car sales preparation room in the location of the original toilet and washroom, reproducing the form with small windows. Kiroha 180-7, an 8-car set, is a modified Kiro 180 200 series car with large windows similar to those of the Kiha 180, and with the conductor's room and ordinary room sections partially converted to small windows due to the installation of the conductor's room, as well as the form in which a drainer was left behind in the closed emergency door area.
