[About the actual machine]
The MiG-21 is a masterpiece Soviet fighter that began operation in 1959 and is still in active service into the 2000s, with various types being produced.
The prototype first flew in 1955.
In 1956 it was given the official name MiG-21.
The first mass-produced model was called the MiG-21F, with subsequent improved versions appearing.
Among them, the MiG-21bis can be said to be the completed form of the MiG-21.
The MiG-21bis first flew in 1971.
The aircraft is equipped with one Tumansky R-25-300 turbojet engine.
It achieved a top speed of 2,175 km/h.
The armament consists of one 23mm GSh-23L cannon.
The aircraft was equipped with four hard points, allowing it to carry a maximum of 1,300 kg of ordnance.
It served as the Soviet Air Force's main fighter aircraft from the 1970s to the 1980s.
It was also deployed to the Finnish Air Force and operated as an interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft from 1978 to 1998.
