[Product Introduction]
The ED16 was manufactured in 1931 during the era of the Ministry of Railways (before the Japanese National Railways), when imported electric locomotives were the mainstream. Eighteen units were produced as a domestically made, standard-sized locomotive for the Ministry of Railways. When it first appeared, it was active on mountain electrified lines such as the Sasago Tunnel on the Chuo Line and the Shimizu Tunnel on the Joetsu Line.
After the war, they were stationed on the Ome Line, Itsukaichi Line, and Nambu Line (Tachikawa Depot) and the Hanwa Line (Otori Depot), but around 1965, all 18 locomotives were gathered at the Tachikawa Depot and put into service on dedicated limestone transport trains connecting Okutama and the Keihin Industrial Zone.
Due to the low track grade of the Ome Line at the time, this type of locomotive, with its relatively light axle load, was in operation for a long period, and it is a famous old-style locomotive that came to an end with a farewell run in 1983.

[Product features]
This product represents the locomotive's final configuration, as it appeared in the 1960s, when it was based at the Tachikawa locomotive depot.
The model realistically depicts the distinctive body stripes and rivets of older electric locomotives, including the deck area, recreating a compact yet robust style.
The front windows have black H-shaped rubber seals, the lightning arresters are located behind the pantograph, and there is no snowplow.
The slotless motor ensures smooth and quiet operation. Despite being a medium-sized locomotive, it is capable of pulling a full train of Hoki 2500/9500 freight cars (16 cars + caboose).
