- Passenger trains that used to run on the Ban'etsu West Line between Aizu-Wakamatsu and Niitsu were pulled by DD51 locomotives. While these were usually locomotives from JR Freight's Higashi-Niigata Depot, there were also cases where DD51-745, belonging to JR East's Nagaoka Depot, was used.
DD51-745 was unique in that it had an additional headlight installed while it was based at the Goryokaku locomotive depot, and it maintained its three-headlight style until the very end, even after being moved to Honshu.
